Another week brings another Diva challenge. This time the challenge is to create a tile using ‘Nzeppel, one of my favorite patterns. Stepouts for ‘Nzeppel and Crazy ‘Nzeppel can be found here.
For months I planned on preparing some of my zentangle tiles with watercolor washes, and I finally got around to it! For this challenge I chose to tangle on a tile with a blue, green, and yellow wash. The wash was done with watercolor crayons and a Pentel Aquash brush. It’s really easy to do and I like the effects.
Carrying over last week’s Back to Basics theme, I decided to stick with official Zentangle patterns again. My tile features Crazy ‘Nzeppel, Crescent Moon, and Tripoli.
As long as I have you here, I’d like to call attention to two new tangles/tangleations which I have worked out. They are called Zazzle and Palmetta. The stepouts can be found on my Patterns page. Also, I made a blog post announcing Zazzle here, and there is an older post about Palmetta here (later revised to include stepouts). They haven’t gotten many views so I thought I’d mention them again here. I would greatly love some feedback, especially since these are my first attempts at introducing new patterns.
Thank you for visiting!
This colored tile is beautiful. I do color tiles a lot and am often quite surprised of the results. Most of the time I drop water and ink, move the tile a bit and let it dry. Love that.
Hi Annemarie, and thank you! I’ve admired many of your beautifully colored tiles. Dropping water and ink, letting the colors run a bit, and then letting it dry sounds like a wonderful technique. Wet on wet? I want to give it a try! Also, I have some spray paints that I want to experiment with as well. Tangles do look so pretty on a colorful background.
Love it!!!
Thanks very much, Gudrun!
Love your ‘Nzeppel challenge piece. I too have been trying to do watercolor backgrounds, but sadly failing to come up with many I like. Perhaps I will try the Diva challenge on one and see how it looks. BTW, I took a look at your patterns as well and love them both. I couldn’t find where to leave a comment on Zazzle, but the mandala you created with it is lovely! And thank you for the Palmetta stepouts; I loved that one the first time I saw it. Thank you for sharing!
Lezli, thank you very much! I think it is a great idea to experiment with watercolor backgrounds. I’ve had a bunch of misses too, but I’m glad that I kept trying. I hope that you will try one with a Diva challenge — looking forward to seeing what you come up with! As an additional note, I’ll share that I’ve spent a fair amount of time searching on YouTube for videos on how to do watercolor washes and so forth. The videos can be very helpful. Thank you for taking a look at my patterns, and I’m so happy that you like them!!! Sorry it took a while for me to post the stepouts for Palmetta. I really don’t understand why comments are unavailable on the Zazzle post… I’ll look into it. Sometimes WordPress works in mysterious ways… But posting here works just fine.
Aha! I did a little sleuthing and found out how to “unclose” comments. Should be working now.
Unlike so many of the other tiles, your Nzepple looks like scaffolding over a garden. I really like the watercolor background.
Thank you Duchess!
Beautiful tile with gorgeous colours and a wonderful contrast between the left part (with the black accent) and the right part with a light part shining trough! I’m fond of watercolours and you became a beautiful result.
Your Zazzle looks great!!!
Ria, I’m so glad that you like Zazzle! Like you, I love watercolors. Thank you 🙂
Wonderful and fresh tile! Like the colours and the contrast!
